About the festival
Sufi music has always been a bridge between the East and West, promoting some of the most liberal and accessible aspects of Islam for centuries. Spiritual and passionate, enchanting and exciting, blissful and exotic, Sufi music is unlike any other. Sufi forms can feel extremely varied and distinct, particularly to newcomers, while others may be surprised to discover that the Indian Qawwali has been traditionally linked to the Turkish dervishes. Sufism truly goes beyond religion. It lets you rise above temples, mosques and churches and allows you to connect on a spiritual level with your creator. It aids you on your quest towards self-realization and enlightenment and is best experienced in the form of fantastical dance, music, and poetry.
The World Sacred Spirit Festival, a stage for some of the greatest artists from all over the planet to enthral their audience, is considered to rank at the very top of Sufi festivals. The 2020 edition of this world-famous tradition shall be held in Nagaur and Jodhpur, in the royal settings of Nagaur Fort and Mehrangarh Fort, thereby making the event even more special.
The previous editions of this extraordinary festival have attracted Sufi artists from all over the world and also witnessed massive crowds. By bringing world-class Sufi stars such as Jaswant Thada, Nawab Khan, Chaar Yaar, Madan Gopal Singh and Druk Yul Trio under the same roof, the event ensured that aficionados from across the world were left enthralled, speechless and captivated by one soul-shaking performance after the other.
Come February, the prestigious Forts of Nagaur and Jodhpur will open their doors again for the most extraordinary and sacred tradition across the world. Illuminated by thousands of blazing candles, the sinfully spiritual acts and performances shall transport you into a bygone era, allowing your spirit to wander across time, bringing about a newfound purpose to your life.
A trip to the World Sacred Spirit Festival is certainly about enjoying the music, but it is also about exploring exotic destinations, old-world forts and palaces, surreal desert beauty and fascinating cuisines. Nagaur dates all the way back to the 4th century BC and is considered to have one of the most enchanting fusions of Rajput-Mughal architecture. On the other hand, Jodhpur is famous as the ancient capital of the Marwar kingdom. It boasts of extremely rich and colourful history and is also home to some of the best-maintained forts in India. Ancient weaponry, unique museums, curious artefacts, and luxurious royal costumes dominate your days while exotic cuisines and blissful accommodations set the tone for one of the most magical nights of your life.
So empty you’re scheduled for February next year, book your tickets, pack your bags and spend some time in these magical destinations experiencing fantastical poetry, dancing and music for one of the most life-changing experiences of your life.
