Kurseong, West Bengal – Cochrane Place

At a Glance

Discover tranquillity in Kurseong, which in Lepcha means ‘the Land of White Orchids’, referring to the small white orchid prolific here. Often you can look down on the cloud below. It seems like the sea, stretching for miles, filling the valleys and the peaks. Ranges rise out of it like islands and peninsulas.

On the outskirts of the main town Kurseong is Cochrane Place, a recreated and restored stately British Colonial home of its previous resident, Percy John Cochrane, MBE. We are nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas with awe-inspiring views of the majestic Kanchenjunga, and surrounded by the wafting aromas of the finest Darjeeling tea.

Stone, log and cast iron splendour are complemented with regal antique furniture, colonial cuisine and the Raj ambience. Situated along a ridge, breathtaking views of the mountains and the valley are visible from the bedrooms. Distinctive interiors give each of them their own individual character.

Combining old world charm with today’s modern facilities, Cochrane Place comprises thirty-one bedrooms, each individually named after the glorious peaks of the Kanchenjunga range.

We have a single deluxe room, nine deluxe double rooms, three standard single rooms, fifteen standard double rooms and three family suite. The well-appointed guest rooms at Cochrane Place reveal their distinctive character and convey the spirit of the British Raj with wood panelling, handcrafted furniture, antique Burma teak beds, mock fireplaces, elegant bathrooms, and beautiful vistas.

Each room at Cochrane Place is as individual as our guests and thoughtfully appointed with the comforts and amenities to enhance your travel experience.
