Narlai, Rajasthan – Rawla Narlai

At a Glance

Upon entering the Rawla Narlai, there is a palpable sense of detachment from the outside world. Situated in Rajasthan midway between Jodhpur & Udaipur, it exudes an unmistakable, inimitable experience that has become to be a signature of this 17th century “Villa”.

Wake up to the sounds of this 17-century village and take in the spiritual energy from the invigorating air descending from the Shiva Temple, lodged deep in a primal cave high on the hill. The village is caught in a time warp since the Royal family moved back to the Kingdom of Jodhpur. Life has continued much as it was then in Narlai.

A 17th-century hunting retreat of the Maharaja of Jodhpur, located in the heart of the arid Aravalli Hills halfway between Udaipur and Jodhpur, the lovely Rawla Narlai was only opened to paying guests in 1995 (and soon after was featured in numerous glossy magazines charmed by its pretty decor and low prices).

Over a decade later, it remains an excellent value destination, but the addition of a pool, and the ongoing lustre of good taste and attention to the individual needs of guests (not to mention the myriad activities on offer), make it one of our favourite places in all Rajasthan.
